DVDs Rule!

First post of the new year has me excited to play some new DVDs. Some are of content so far unseen – West Wing 3rd Season. Others are of content to be seen over and over again – How the Grinch Stole Christmas, The Rankin/Bass Holiday specials (Frosty, Rudolph, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, etc.), and Charlie Brown Christmas. Those DVDs I purchased for Aidan. I received Seinfeld’s 3rd season and a box set of Marx Brothers movies including Duck Soup and Monkey Business (my personal fav). Again the Seinfeld stuff and Marx Brothers movies are things I have seen but can’t wait to expose to Aidan (Seinfeld will have to wait ’til he’s older).

The extras on the Grinch DVD are cool including the music behind the ‘toon, featuring Thurl Ravenscroft, also of Tony the Tiger fame. The other feature, Horton Hears a Who, skips/stops on my upstairs DVD player (my newer one). I gave my wife the Sex and the City 1st Season DVD as well as Grand Canyon which is a touching and thought provoking film. I remember when Laser Discs were THE answer to movie buffs. How silly we were to think that.

It should be noted that I am a weird West Wing fan. West Wing is a show that I always wanted to get into, but never did (time slot and sleep issues). Well I have watched the 1st and 2nd seasons and now embark on the 3rd (“Issac and Ismael” should be required viewing for all). I have never watched a complete show on NBC. I was somewhat apolitical in ’99, less so in 2000 and 2001, but still never got in the habit. Now, I don’t want to spoil anything by “gazing into the future”. The Bravo network is my only hope to catch up, but then I must deal with the commercials. I feel icky having to watch commercials during West Wing. I’ll let you know how I solve this dilemma.
