Now That’s a Video Blog

Superman Returns

I’m always on the lookout for a good new video blog. So I was stunned when I discovered this gem put together by the team (Bryan Singer et al) doing the movie Superman Returns. Flash video in a compelling comic book format. The best entry (so far) is one that has Singer doing a guest directing stint for a sleepy Peter Jackson (directing King Kong). Great stuff! As they say, hat tip to Tim Lauer for this one.

  1. Wow, Andy. That is very cool. The interfacec is beautifully done.

And the Peter Jackson entry is hysterical. Do you think it’s for real? Or is it a “bit.”

  2. I thought of the “bit” angle, but didn’t know enough history regarding the two directors. It would be quite an elaborate stunt. Speaking of history, do I have it right that Bryan Singer directed the pilot of “House”?

  3. Yep, Bryan Singer directed the pilot (later the first episode) of “House.” He’s also one of the executive producers, along with David Shore (who wrote the amazing “Three Stories” episode and created the show) and Paul Attanasio, who wrote great screenplays for “Quiz Show” and “Donnie Brasco.” I’m not familiar with Katie Jacobs, the fourth executive producer, but now I’m curious.

I know a fair amount about each director but I know nothing of their acquaintance, so I can’t say if it’s a bit or for real. I do know that I’ve been missing out on a fantastic video production diary Jackson’s been keeping during the making of King Kong. Have you seen this?

  4. Interesting article at Wired on King Kong, including the decision by Jackson to make the video production diaries available: http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/13.10/kingkong.html?pg=2.

Also intersting, it seems that Jackson at one point had a corollary diar to Singer’s, but it doesn’t seem to be available anymore. The only diaries I could find were the post-production diaries on the site. And links I found to the Singer video were all broken. Perhaps they’ve taken it down since they are planning on releasing the diaries as a special DVD?

And the consensus on various boards is that this was definitely a “bit.” 😉
