Talent vs. Equipment? It’s Talent!!!

Posted by awrush on 31 May 2005 | Tagged as: General

It is obvious from this video that knowing how to put together these new media forms is much more important than getting the best equipment. The song doesn’t overpower the visual and the visual complements the song. Be sure to read about the making of the video on the page where it appears. I think this will be another popular Internet piece, and it’s certainly different from the Numa Numa Dance. Thanks again to Eric Rice.

UPDATE: OMG check out Ringtone Dancer! Hysterical!!!

Time to MoBlog!

Posted by awrush on 23 May 2005 | Tagged as: General

I have arrived in the 21st century! I now own a cell phone. My reasons for owning one previously were still not compelling enough - though keeping track of my wife and son was greatly compelling. No, the reason that I have launched myself into Cingular Nation is MoBlogging. I purchased a Sony Ericsson Z500a phone, complete with picture and video capabilities. I will have several blogging options available to me - my MediaBlog (still in proof of concept mode), Flickr, and a Blogger account, the links to the latter will be added later. So now it’s time to learn about the camera and figure how to do it all. I’ll describe all the techniques I use as I go.

Eric Rice talks Podcasting with Leo Laporte

Posted by awrush on 08 May 2005 | Tagged as: General

Eric Rice is a pioneer in podcasting and video blogs. He also runs what looks like a great service at audioblog.com A show called Call for Help, which is only on in Canada now, featured Eric talking about podcasting. Call for Help is hosted by Leo Laporte (ex. The Screen Savers). Maybe when all of this podcasting and video blog stuff gets big, we’ll have a show dedicating some time to this new media.

Taking a cue from Eric, if you want to get Call for Help on in the U.S., fill out the form. I wonder if everyone who fills out the form should choose the 18 to 35 demographic ’cause that might be what the advertisers are looking for. Personally, I left that demographic a while back.

Remembering, or Creating Passwords for Websites

Here is another Jon Udell gem - a solution to the “how do I create a unique password for my subscription websites” question. Watch the screencast. Now it’s just a little daunting to change all those old passwords, but at least it’s easy to enter them

“The Screen Savers” Lives!

If you could find a group of people that are very knowledgeable about technology, and yet down to earth, you’d like to see them make a TV show. The Screen Savers quickly became the other reason that I got satellite TV (the first being cycling on OLN). Then a network called G4 merged with TechTV and The Screen Savers was no more.

Well thanks to the world of podcasting, the folks at the heart of The Screen Savers, Leo Laporte, Patrick Norton, Kevin Rose, and Robert Heron, are back with This Week in Tech (TWIT). That’s the name for now anyway. It started out as Revenge of the Screen Savers (ROTSS). Now it’s TWIT. Look for the new TWIT site to come on line soon. These four guys know so much about technology, and they’re slightly goofy, as any tech person can relate to. Enjoy their podcast as you drive to work every Monday morning.
